Where to eat small plates and tapas in Leeds
Three places for sharing plates in Leeds, from garlic prawns on York Place to a balcony over the Aire, plus one closure to knock off your list.
By Only Leeds EditorialSearching for tapas in Leeds throws up a fair few names, and not all of them are still serving. Here are three places for small plates and sharing that are open, each with a street to find them on and something to order. Start with the one you can cross off.
Cross this one off first
Ibérica, the Spanish chain's Leeds restaurant at Hepper House, 17A East Parade, has closed. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported the closure after the group entered administration. Some old directory pages still list it as if nothing has happened, so ignore them and book elsewhere.
La Taberna, York Place
This is the one for proper Spanish tapas in the City Centre. You will find it in the basement of Britannia House, 16 York Place, LS1 2EU, a short walk from the station and the office towers of the business district. The Yorkshire Evening Post's June 2026 round-up of Tripadvisor's top 10 put it at number one for authentic Spanish tapas, and the paper says reviewers pick out the garlic prawns and the croquettes.
Order those two first. Reviewers on Tripadvisor also mention the patatas bravas and the deep-fried aubergine fritters, so a table of four can cover most of the usual suspects without anyone fighting over the last croqueta.
On price, OpenTable lists it as "£25 and under", which is the sort of figure that makes a midweek booking easy to justify. It is open evenings Tuesday to Saturday, but listed hours differ between sites, so check before you go. It is closed Sunday and Monday on the listings that give days.
Ambiente Tapas, The Calls
Ambiente sits at 36 to 38 The Calls, LS2 7EW, in the Calls Landing building, a short stroll from the centre along the river. It has been in Leeds since 2012, according to the restaurant's own text as repeated on Visit Leeds. It is a chain, with other branches in York and Hull, so this is reliable rather than rarefied, and that has its place when you have a table of mixed appetites.
The draw is the balcony overlooking the River Aire, which is what to ask for when the weather plays along. Inside there is air conditioning for when it does not, or for the warmer days. There is also a children's "Little Niños" menu, which makes it one of the easier tapas options for a family lunch.
Tripadvisor reviewers name the chorizo y patatas, the calamares, the patatas bravas and the pan catalán. Order a few of those and you have a meal. It is listed as open daily from 12:00 to 22:00, so it works for a late lunch as well as dinner, and it is one of the few places here you can turn up at on a Sunday or Monday without checking first.
Bundobust, Mill Hill
Not Spanish, but this is small plates and sharing done in Leeds style. Bundobust is at 6 Mill Hill, LS1 5DQ, just up from the station end of the City Centre. The menu is vegetarian Indian food built for sharing, with beer taken as seriously as the food. The Good Food Guide describes it as the place where the business started, and it has since grown into a small chain with a brewery and taproom. Bundobust's own page calls Mill Hill its first venue with a roof, after the pop-up and street-food days.
The notes do not give individual dishes, so check the menu when you sit down. The easy approach is to order a spread between the table and pair it with something from the beer list. OpenTable gives the price band as "£25 and under".
Listed hours are Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 21:30, Friday and Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, and Sunday 12:00 to 20:00. That makes it a decent shout for an early Sunday dinner when other places are shutting up.
