Search for the Alchemist in Leeds and you will find two of them, both in the City Centre. One is on the upper floor of Trinity Leeds, looking over Boar Lane. The other is in Yorkshire House on Greek Street. Same chain, same theatrical cocktails, different feel. Here is how to choose.

What it is

The Alchemist is a UK chain of cocktail bars with restaurants, built around what it calls molecular mixology. Its own line is “Theatre, served”. Expect drinks that change colour, arrive with dry ice or go from hot to cold as you sip. The first one opened in Spinningfields in Manchester, which the chain calls ground zero, and it celebrated its 16th birthday in January 2026.

Trinity: the original in Leeds

Where: upper floor of Trinity Leeds, LS1 6HW, by Boar Lane.

This opened in 2013, and the Yorkshire Evening Post says it was one of the first businesses to open in the then brand-new shopping centre. It marked its 10th birthday in 2023 by bringing back its hero cocktails. There is a heated wrap-around terrace over Boar Lane, which makes it a decent shout when the weather is playing along.

In a Christmas 2025 review, the Yorkshire Evening Post called it the most impressive Alchemist the reviewer had visited, and said it suits post-work drinks or a break from shopping. Dietary options are listed too: Tripadvisor shows vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.

Greek Street: the other one

Where: Yorkshire House, Greek Street, LS1 5SH, on the Financial Quarter side of the City Centre.

The chain’s page mentions a copper-cased entrance and links the building to Leeds’s film history, a piece of marketing rather than a claim about this exact address. Weekend DJ sessions and a Sunday Feast are listed here. It is the one to pick for a longer night out.

Visit Leeds lists the hours as Monday to Wednesday 11am to midnight, Thursday 11am to 1am, Friday 11am to 2am, Saturday 10am to 2am and Sunday 11am to 11pm. AccessAble gives slightly different Thursday and Sunday times, so check the official site before you set off.

What to order

  • Drinks: Leeds Inspired names the smoky Old Fashioned and the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Greek Street. The Colour Changing One is a core theatrical cocktail, and a Frozen Cherry Vanilla Marg is on the brunch list.
  • Food: prawn lollipops, sticky beef salad and fried chicken in a basket are the named favourites. The menu also lists a Full Alchemist Breakfast and a plant-based coconut tofu curry.

What it costs

Premium cocktails run to around £12.50: that was the price of the festive specials at Trinity in December 2025, which the Yorkshire Evening Post called pricey. Tripadvisor rates Trinity at ££ to £££.

Brunch is the better value. The chain’s Leeds page offers three cocktails and a brunch dish from £35 a head, with bottomless an extra £10 for 90 minutes. The “Until Dusk” option, with seven theatrical cocktails, is listed at £39.50. Prices vary between pages, so check before you book.

When to go

  • Early evening or after work: Trinity, for a drink before the shops shut or before heading on.
  • Weekend brunch: Saturdays and Sundays. One chain page gives Saturday 10am to 3pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
  • Late: Thursday to Saturday, at Greek Street. A Tripadvisor reviewer found a Friday very busy, so book.

Table reservations for late-night drinks have been listed for Thursday to Saturday after 10pm, with drinks packages bookable online. Book through the chain’s own site, which also has current hours and menus.
